Hi, I’m Aubrey — owner of Bibliophile’s Kitchen: Cakes and Things, a licensed clinical social worker turned self-taught baker with a love for good stories and even better sweets.
Bibliophile’s Kitchen actually started in the most unexpected way: book club. Every month, I brought cakes or sweets to share with friends, fully convinced I was on my way to becoming a bookstagrammer. I started an Instagram account under the name “Bibliophile’s Kitchen,” planning to post book reviews with the occasional baked treat.
But then the messages started coming — “Could you make my kid’s birthday cake?” “Can you do our anniversary?” — and soon my friends were sharing my name with their friends and families. Within a few months, my weekends were booked with special orders, and it became clear I had stumbled into something truly special.
After talking with my husband, Justin, I decided to take the leap: we registered as a real business, and I began popping up at local farmers markets and events around Salina. The support was incredible.
Then in 2024, an opportunity came our way — a chance to renovate a space and move into a brick-and-mortar shop right in the heart of downtown. We didn’t even have to think twice. Our community needed a sweet shop, a place where people could gather, celebrate, and enjoy something made with intention and love.
Today, as a mom of two (plus a cat, a dog, and four chickens), a Kansas-rooted Salina transplant, and a baker who still keeps a book tucked nearby, I get to build something meaningful — blending stories, creativity, and community one cake at a time.
